Decara delivers Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) at 10,000 IU per softgel. Once ingested, Vitamin D3 is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], the major circulating form. It then travels to the kidneys, where it is activated into calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D). As a secosteroid hormone, calcitriol binds to Vitamin D Receptors (VDR) in the small intestine, promoting calcium-binding protein synthesis for efficient calcium absorption. It also regulates phosphate homeostasis and supports osteoblast activity for bone mineralization. DL-Alpha-Tocopheryl Acetate is included as an antioxidant to maintain the stability of the oil-based formula.
