SLO-NIACIN 500 mg
Brand: Upsher-Smith
Dr. Feb's Analysis
Scientific Mechanism
The active ingredient, Niacin (500 mg), is a form of Vitamin B3. At the cellular level, it works by inhibiting the enzyme diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2) in the liver. This action reduces the synthesis of triglycerides and Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL). Consequently, the liver produces less LDL cholesterol. Niacin also stimulates the production of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) by reducing the hepatic breakdown of apolipoprotein A1. This dual mechanism supports lipid profile balance.
Key Benefits
Key benefits include:
- Supports healthy cholesterol levels by lowering LDL and triglycerides.
- Helps increase HDL (good cholesterol) for cardiovascular protection.
- Provides essential Vitamin B3 support for energy metabolism and nervous system health.
- Offers a doctor-recommended form of niacin (nicotinic acid) for therapeutic use.
